To be able to use Ultimote to its full potential, I thought I'd write some basic tips and trix.
- First of all you need XBMC Dharma installed on your computer (obviously). You can download XBMC here.
- Then, import all your media, choose which scraper to use for movies and so on. Great help for setting up XBMC can be found here.
- To make it possible to use Ultimote the next step is to enable the built in http server. This setting can usualy be found under system/network/services. It will probably look similar to this: (depending on the skin)
Here you may enter your desired port, username and password. You should do just fine leaving username and password as it is. (Be aware that the password is sent unencrypted over your network and can be sniffed. So I suggest not using any password used somewhere else.)
- The next step is to set up Ultimote accordingly. First, go to the settings tab. Either create a new profile or just press the details button on "Profile1". This will bring up this view:
Profile title: A name for the current profile, e.g. "Living room" or "HTPC".
IP: The ip adress to the computer where XBMC is installed.
Port: The port you defined in XBMC.
Username: The username defined in XBMC.
Password: The password defined in XBMC.
When all the settings are entered, make sure XBMC is at its "home screen" then press the "Test and save settings" button. If everything went as it should, an OK! will show up. If not, check for any errors. Make sure XBMC is on, and the http server is up and running.
This is a good app. But I keep having to sync database each time I start using it. How can I keep database saved so that it doesn't have to look for it each time I go to use it
ReplyDeleteMark: That's odd. It's supposed to save the database once it's being synced. Try create a new profile and test again. If that doesn't help, try to remove the app, and install it again. I will look into this, and please let me know if you still have any problems!

Second an icon on each episode of a tv show if it was already seen.
A third nice feature would be a slider instead of just a fast forward.

Tests and everything says its Ok! But when syncing database (first time) it says sync complete and then two popups tell me that it could not connect to xbmc. Movies and tvshows are empty. Remote works fine tho

- Unable to navigate "submenu" when starting movie I've startet on earlier.
Hi latest update makes it so I cannot use the movies or tv tabs.. The folders work ok tho.. Any ideas?

hi, before the last update i could sync with xbmc on my appletv and the thumbnails in ultimote were exactly the same like in my xbmc library. even all my custom covers (for movies the scrapers didn't find) were displayed correctly. now, after the update it looks like ultimote is using a scraper for downloading the thumbs instead of using my xbmc library thumbs. the result is, many movies havn't any thumbs at all, others don't have the thumbs i like. is there any way to force ultimote to use exactly the thumbs of my xbmc library? nevertheless fantastic program, keep going on...
ReplyDeleteHi, I just downloaded and installed Ultimote. The connection to the XBMC works fine, but as soon I try to get a list of my movies or music the app is crashing. What can I do? Regards, Manfred
ReplyDeleteHi, just dowloaded your software. It crashes when i try to see the list of Tv-Shows, or the List is empty. No Fan-Art in Movie were shown. Crashes often when i try to edit the preferences.

Same problem as Daywalker (tried with the XBMC camelot and the new Dharma beta 2). Settings are saved but the movies/series only displays "Loading" until it crashes (after 5/10min)

ReplyDeleteHi, I just bought a few days ago the Ultimote app, it works perfect but I have a problem: I use a lot the function ''search'' in XBMC, I use the basic mode of Ultimote to navigate into XBMC but when I go to the ''search mode'' I can't find a way to get or show the keyboard in the iPad, this way I am unable to write the artists, actor, movie, etc, etc...

Can THE possibility Yo display music albums in THE format artist -albumname be realized? Now you neef to knowhow THE album name to search.... Also à display by artist like albums and genre would be appreciated. Ultimote works flawlessly on xbmcfreak v10 ( linux)

ReplyDeleteDoesn't work, crashes when i click the movies button. This is the second unsuccessfull update from the author who admits that he has limited resources for testing. I say if you can't test your app then you probably shouldn't be developing apps.

Hello, can't see any movie or tv show on the tabs. Remote works on the basic mode, but when I try to use the other tabs, the app crashes.

New Version does not crash anymore for me. But it doesn't show TVShows or Movies and Songs are still represented just by numbers.

I'm using Dharma Beta 3 and get the "ok!" when testing the connection in the profile screen and the basic remote screen works fine. The problem is that the video and tv libraries are empty even they are working fine with thumbs artwork etc on the PC. I've tried refreshing and redoing the profile to no avail.

ReplyDeleteThe problem is that this app use imdb.com and it seems they have changed format which has affected all our libraries. I found this out when I added a new pc to my network. The answer is how to change the Apps scraper from imdb to themoviedb.org
ReplyDeleteYou should add some functionality to make it work with Boxee. Right now all the navigation, play/pause, folder listings works fine with Boxee. But the media listings don't.

hi...some big problems with ultimote, the app crashes some time when connected to wifi, database syncs on every start up, cant browse the library with artist search big problem
ReplyDeleteNot happy. I get Epic fail when trying to connect to my Mac mini. The xbmc iPhone app works fine so don't know why this doesn't. I agree with others, there should be a free trial - I feel conned.
ReplyDeleteHi, everything works OK except for "basic mode", which does not show what XBMC is showing on the TV (I only get a gray rectangle on the iPad). I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 (XBMC version 1:9.11-lucid3).

ReplyDeleteDoes not work for me. The profile test reports ok and the play stop button works. But in the music list I only see numbers 1,2 etc, not the names of the artist, tracks or any thing. In film view i have an empty list.
